Frank's Rigging Progress

We have Frank with his arms fully rigged. All that remains is his head! You're probably wondering why the model's textures are different..don't worry..I just put on some test textures to see what Frank's pose looked like when rendered.

Frank's Texture Overlays

These are Beauty Pass and Ambient Occlussion Pass overlays. So far, I like Hard Light and Luminosity..Liner Dodge comes in close because of the level of 'flatness' that it gives the character

Frank's Lighting Tests

To get the old, high-contrast look and still make the character look a bit stop-motion-y, I experimented with Ambient and Directional Lights, Spotlights, Ambient Occlussion Plug-in Lights and Studio Lighting

So far, numbers 4 and 10 are my favourites. I like the way Frank's face is illuminated in number 17.

Influences: Marilyn and No5- Inside Chanel

A friend of Sir P. Greene spoke about this Chanel advert and the 'never before seen' footage of Marilyn Monroe. Sir. P. thought that it was a great influence on the project and the feel of the video was very glamorous and stayed true to the era. Hence, The Greene wanted to share this...ENJOY!

Frank's Maya Model

His head still needs resizing but he's almost ready!!

-Sir P.

BOBBLEHEAD FRANK!

While bringing Frank's model together, I placed his head on top of his body before resizing it. I am seriously considering changing his character to  bobblehead one instead xD (That's a joke)

Overlay Tests and Passes

Beauty Pass with Ambient Occlusion

Overlay Compilation
After this initial 'experimentation session', I got some interesting looks for Ella. Numbers 2 and 3 are my favourite because they give her a stop-motion look and I like that as the 'plasticine' look was what I wanted to go for in the 3D model sections of my animation (as can be seen in my first animatic).

There is still loads more to come but these tests helped me get my head around Ella and how she would look when finished.

Please comment!

Stay Green!

Modelling Progress of Ella's Face

Ella's Modelling Progress: The Head

After a bit of a lull due to the dissertation draft hand-in, Sir P is back to modelling Ella.
Sources report that he is working on the head the moment.

Modelling Progress With Ella

I have decided that I shall be retiring for the night...this is what I have got so far with Ella...the mirroring is not parented geometry, it is only mirrored as an instance for the sake of modelling itself.

What I'm Listening To Right Now- Roy Fox- What a Difference A Day Made

Modelling Progress- Ella's Legs

Having started modelling Ella early in the week, I went through a bit of a trial and error process. One model ended up having far too high a poly count. (Image reference can be found below)

SO MANY POLYGONS!!!
Finally, I created a model that I think has a decent poly-count. I shall be consulting Alan later but this is the update on my progress.

What I'm Listening To Right Now- Farewell Blues- Eddie Lang and Joe Vernati

What I'm Listening To Right Now- Duke Ellington- Sump'n 'bout Rhythm

What I'm Listening To Right Now- The New Twister- Mill Mole

Getting to know Frank and Ella is not easy...they're complex characters with a vivid past.
What better way to get to know the 1930s than delve into the music scene!

This is what I'm listening to right now to cut out the silence on the blog =) I am working on a lot of things simultaneously, which you shall be able to view soon! So stay tuned =D

Hope you enjoy it as well!

Dance Routines

For the interim critique or as some like to call it, THE PITCH, I shall be including an inked sequence of Frank and Ella dancing in the moonlight. Here are some dance routines that I will be using as reference.

Ella's Walk Experimentation

For Ella. I wanted her to maintain her sprightly walk even as an old lady but a bit weighed down. Walk-Cycle B is Ella as an older cat...lady.

Frank's Walk Experimentation

I was experimenting with different walks for Frank, giving him more weight and a more Winnie The Pooh-like gait in Walk-Cycle A.

Frank and Ella Through The Ages

Improvements on Frank's Structure

Frank was not as difficult to age as Ella. his naturally round appearance, made it easy to make him look like a grumpy old grandpa.
A higher waistband, a walking stick, a chin and a receding hairline (a higher one than his younger version) were key in ageing Frank.
